Nanoparticle vaccine cures type 1 diabetes in mice
One in every 400-600 children and teens has type 1 diabetes (aka juvenile diabetes). Currently, the chronic disease, which forces sufferers to administer insulin via injection or pump, is not preventable, nor is there a known cure. But, thanks to the development of a new nanotechnology-based vaccine, a cure for type 1 diabetes might be closer than previously thought. So far, the vaccine, which consists of protein fragments that aim to stop beta cells from being destroyed, has successfully cured the disease in mice. And researchers hope that soon enough, the vaccine will work for humans too.
