Nottingham’s cave labyrinth mapped
The association that immediately springs to mind when Nottingham is mentioned is, of course, the legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, yet a fascinating bit of history has been completely mapped for the first time thanks to a 3D laser scan performed by the Nottingham Cave Survey.
The 450+ caves underlying the city have played host to 14th century soldiers, a WWII-era air-raid shelter, a subterranean butcher and will eventually offer adventurous customers a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Some lucky townsfolk even have access to the passages through their basements, which is either the most incredible or most terrifying architectural feature ever.
Sorry Robin Hood, but you've just been beaten out by a hole in the ground when it comes to cool.
