Oopsie! Texas bans all marriages

Lone Star State couples that swapped vows in the last four years might not actually be legally married, according to Democratic candidate for Texas attorney general, Barbara Ann Radnofsky. Radnofsky argues that tricky phrasing in the 2005 amendment designed to outlaw same sex marriages effectively banned all marriages.

The marriage statute declares:

"This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

Radnofsky’s political rival pish-poshed the controversy, calling it a political scare tactic. Indeed, nothing is scarier than two people in a loving, committed relationship being barred from making their union legal. Oh...wait.

Get hitched in Texas since 2005? Might be time to plan another wedding.

That's pretty fantastic when the wording itself clearly protects marriage as defined by the TX constitution - "This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status IDENTICAL or SIMILAR to marriage" implying that marriage is predefined.

Lol at silly Democratic lawyers...

I'm a cartoonist and I can't get funnier than this. If it weren't so sad, it would be an award-winner. You go Texas; I grew up in rural Ms., and we so so need this kind of thing to keep us from being number 50 at EVERYTHING.

Marriage is identical to marriage; this is the reflexive property of language and a tautology. Therefore this statute declared that Texas does not recognize marriage.

Sounds like the left and right are out tricking themselves.

Regardless of the wording, clearly the Texas legislature intended for traditional marriage to remain intact. It's a stupid argument by Radnofsky, and equally stupid that anyone, including Mr. Kawasaki's employees, pay attention to what she said. Does anyone else think that Holy Kaw! seems to be following an MSNBC and NY Times path lately and likes to promote stories that poke fun at Conservatism? I thought I could learn something about business by following Holy Kaw! Instead, I get the same garbage pseudo-journalism I can get anywhere else. Time for me to unfollow, I think.
