Packaging is like fashion; if you show up to a cocktail party dressed in sweats, Crocs and a Def Leppard tee, people will judge you negatively (well, maybe not in certain areas, but you get the idea). The same goes for product packaging; if your company’s perfume bottle comes packaged in a plastic, bedazzled spray bottle, then there’s not much hope for competing with Chanel No. 5. Although, remember, don’t think stellar packaging can hide a crappy product--if you wrap elephant poop in a sleek and eye-pleasing package, it will still be elephant poop.

Prepare your noggin for a flood of inspiration and check out all 30 examples of amazing packaging design.

My favorite example of "packaging makes the product" is the melons in Japan that are fancily wrapped and boxed and sell for $50-$100. It's just a melon (albeit a really good quality one), but no one would pay that much for a nice piece of fruit without the packaging.

I love the 6 feet under DVD box, very inspired. Remember pretty packaging generally doesn't deliver well - maybe thats the next design challenge, designer packing that withstand the rigours of the postal system.
