Well, that's not at all biased. Is it? I especially liked the closing. Let's think for a minute: wouldn't the company that cured diabetes make billions and keep it all for themselves? Wouldn't a company that didn't make any of these meters or other testing equipment be interested since wouldn't lose anything? Not every pharma company makes diabetes treatment products. I'd think that one that doesn't would love take all of this "market share" from a rival.
But, that's me thinking logically, which doesn't work well for these conspiracy stories.
I agree with Jonathan, not that Pharma needs a lot of sticking up for..... BUT this infographic is pretty biased and a missing key information like the enormous cost and challenges associated with drug development. Pharma is deserving of some criticism but it needs to be based in reality and with a better solution in mind.
And BTW, can anyone explain why the source for this is a sketchy looking college "finder" that doesn't seem to create any other content whatsoever? How about at least including a link to the real source: http://www.onlineschools.org/
Dear authors: When taking a swipe at #pharma in the future about costs try and do a little research first. 5 out of the 6 brands you reference are generic now and 2 of them are over the counter. A great deal of your costs are way off. Also referencing 20 year patent law as some sort of advantage for pharma is a laugh at best. Maybe you should look at how a country say like Russia feels about the importance of pharmaceutical medicine http://en.rian.ru/russia/20090930/156304616.html

Thank you, Jonathan, for your timely response to this post. There's SO much misinformation in this infographic, it's hard to know where to start. Perhaps "Aventis" being included as one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies is a good start because they've not existed since 2004 when Sanofi acquired them.
Having worked for 2 companies that manufacturer insulin and other injectible medications for diabetes, I assure you there's SO much more money and motive in finding a cure than simply treating. Unfortunately, metabolic diseases are so poorly understood. Current theories speculate that type 1 and type 2 diabetes are actually the same disease manifested differently. Figure that one out.
Today is the 2 year anniversary of my diagnosis of Hodgkins lymphoma (cancer). Shame on the 4 independent pharmaceutical companies who developed adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine and decarbazine (ABVD) therapy and the researchers who found a viable treatment that has allowed me to be cancer free for the past 18 months in time to celebrate my son's 4th birthday tomorrow.
The pharmaceutical industry may deserve their fair share of criticism, but it needs to be balanced and factual.

Here's the problems I've had with big pharma. So I'm on birth control right? Not every pill works the best for each woman. I FINALLY found a pill that I like, worked great for me. Then Pharma marked up the price of it (it more than just doubled) over-freakin-night. Now I can't afford it. There's no generic for it (which won't come for a number of years because of aforementioned law). The closest I've come to a generic for it is a generic for the higher-hormone dose variant of it. It leaves me feeling more depressed than I was on the other pill and the extra hormones seem to mess me up. Big Pharma can suck a big one just for that reason alone. And they also love marking up my mom's thyroid medicine too. Do they really think everyone's made of money? Because here we aren't. This ridiculousness needs to stop ASAP. That and I do know older people who can't afford their meds who skimp on them too. And they should NEVER have to do that just so they can pay the light bill.
Very misleading. Same logic would make bread free... ingredients: wheat, rain, sunshine. Markup = infinity% The rest of it follows the same kind of evidence-based reasoning.
