“Though the parade began late, it appeared to be off to a good start until the route along Pennsylvania Avenue became choked with tens of thousands of spectators — mostly men in town for the inauguration. Marchers were jostled and ridiculed by many in the crowd. Some were tripped, others assaulted. Policemen appeared to be either indifferent to the struggling paraders, or sympathetic to the mob. Before the day was out, one hundred marchers had been hospitalized.”

  • A little bittersweet.

  • And to this day, many of the same methods used then are employed to keep women from gaining equality with men.

  • I find it strange that the same humanity that did those things, and that stood by while those things happened can look back in disgust today. Makes me wonder what we will be looking back in disgust at in the next 100 years, and if me, or anyone I knew took part in the wrongful act.

  • This is wonderful. Today I am spending international women's day cancel reflecting on the ways that I can contribute to the development and self efficacy of women around the world.

  • My grandmother was a strong woman of faith and conviction. Several years ago, our local paper wanted women to send letters for the anniversary of women's suffrage. My grandmother sent a letter expressing her opinion that it had been a mistake. She never was one to be aligned with popular opinion. I miss her terribly.
