Porn goes live at new .xxx domain
Although April fifteenth is usually known as the dreaded day taxes are due, IANA decided to do the date a favor by also making it the day the .xxx Top Level Domain went live.
While some have protested that such a domain only encourages pornography, ICM Registry, the company behind the new .xxx domain and the domain’s sponsor, IFFOR (International Foundation for Online Responsibility) stress that a majority of people support the effort to segregate adult entertainment on the internet. The best practices guiding registrants includes the following points:
- Safeguard children from being marketed or targeted online
- Defend customer privacy
- Use and promote accurate labeling and meta-tagging
- Ensure clear and accurate disclosures, security of transactions and contact information
- Protect intellectual property rights
- Combat the use of unlawful malicious codes and technologies (e.g., spoofing)
- Oppose fraudulent, anonymous and unsolicited bulk SPAM advertising adult entertainment
If you’re not a big fan of porn, it’s tough not to appreciate their efforts to stop SPAM and keep it out of the hands of kids, and for those who worry segregating porn will somehow lessen traffic…are you kidding?
