Road hockey in New Brunswick
Oh Canada, let me show you another reason why I love this country. I’m in Fredericton, New Brunswick for the NB Innovation Foundation and what does my host find for me to do during the day? Play road hockey. This was a first for me.
I got to play in the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design Cup featuring the graphics department against the photography department. This is the biggest game since the gold medal finals in Vancouver.
It’s a simple game: You need a ball and parking lot.
It helps if you have the juice to close off the parking lot for the game.
Gary Cheevers came out of retirement for the game.
The gang, post game. The team I was on, by the way, won with an overtime, instant death clutch goal strangely similar to a game a few weeks ago in Vancouver. I never did figure out who were the photographers and who were the graphic designers, though.
Then it was back to work. Water usage was probably affected by the game.

This is why our country's talent pool is so deep - we cultivate this in our youth from a young age. Be one with the ball...
You think I'm so rich that I would use a $200 composite stick for road hockey? You have me confused with Jobs and Gates. :-)
Could you imagine Jobs or Gates playing any sport?

Although there are many great things about hockey, there are two that make me feel like I'm 10 years old again - 1) playing road hockey ("Car!") and 2) playing hockey on a frozen lake or an outdoor rink. Hope you had a similar experience.
Any hidden superstars with mad stickhandling skillz out there today?
It looked fairly warm...you don't want to take a slapper off the leg when it's 5 below ..I think I still have a welp on my thigh. Great memories!
another way to know if a dude is road-worthy (or at least been around the block a few times) is if he's using plastic replacement blades on his broken ice hockey sticks ;-)
After games, we'd pull out our hockey cards and trade them, or play, "flick'em" up against a wall. I learned the basics of economics over hockey cards..."Trade ya"..."Whatcha got" (English isn't important when you're 8 or 9).
Thanks for sharing guy...made my day during the craziness of March Madness.
I grew up playing this (we call it street hockey) here in the Boston area. Love that one of the guys has a B's jersey on.
