Say goodbye to laundry with self-cleaning cloth

Media_httpfarm7static_ssxrm

Yes, you heard it right here, and it may be the beginning of a whole new, laundry-free world.

A team from UC Davis has developed a kind of cloth that cleans itself, no washer, no dryer, no fabric softener, nothin’, just a chemical compound that goes by the name of 2-anthraquinone carboxylic acid:

2-ACQ forms a strong bond with the cellulose in cotton, so it’s extremely hard to wash off. When the compound is exposed to light, it produced reactive oxygen species, such as hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals, that combat bacteria and cause organic compounds such as pesticides and other toxins to disintegrate.

Now you can finally fess up and admit to Mom that you really come home every weekend because you miss her.
