Shanthi, the harmonica-playing elephant [video]

Without the stress of finding food or fighting off predators, a zoo elephant can get a bit bored behind bars, but Shanthi, the thirty-six-year-old elephant at Smithsonian’s National Zoo, was so ingenious in her DIY musical efforts, staff decided to offer her some instrumental options to expand her repertoire. Without training or prompting, Shanthi has shown particular skill at the harmonica (and it doesn’t even sound like she’s playing the blues).
