Short film recounts a soldier’s lasting regret [video]
Most of us will never know the anguish experienced by soldiers whose job it is to confront mortality on a daily basis and often determine it. Joseph Robertson died at the age of ninety in 2009, reliving the moment he killed an angel at the Battle of the Bulge every day since that one. In this Story Corps interview recorded with his son-in-law in 2005, Mr. Robertson recounts what he called the “saddest moment of his life.” The Rauch brothers direct the heartrending reliving of this tale in their short film, German in the Woods.
