Skier survives 17 hours under avalanche in Switzerland
A twenty-one-year-old skier was found alive after being buried underneath an avalanche for seventeen hours in the Swiss Alps. The lucky lad was pulled from the snow with only mild hypothermia and no major injuries.
The man was skiing off piste near Evolène in the Swiss Valais when he was buried by the slide. His parents reported him missing and a search operation commenced. They soon found evidence of an avalanche measuring fifty by 150 meters. The rescue team was unable to do anything due to security issues, so they came back the next morning with a helicopter.
The rescue team found the man just below the surface, explaining how he was able to breathe. But doctors can't explain how he managed to survive with so few injuries and such little hypothermia. Amazing!
