A free app for iPhone and iPad lets users take photos of their skin and monitor changes over time for signs of melanoma.

The app, from University of Michigan, sends automatic reminders and offers step-by-step instructions for a skin self-exam. It also provides pictures of various types of skin cancers for comparisons.
