Social media might be trendy, but the question at the end of the day for many companies is whether it pays off. A new study by Chadwick Martin Bailey seems to suggest that it does. The research, for instance, finds the following:

  • 51% of Facebook fans are more likely to buy since connecting with the company on social media.
  • 67% of Twitter followers are more likely to buy since connecting with the company on social media.
  • 60% of Facebook fans were more likely to recommend the brand since adding it on social media.
  • 79% of Twitter followers were more likely to recommend the brand since adding it on social media.

The sample size for the study was 1,504 Americans.

It would be really good to see this compared with traditional media..now I think that would be telling, and would show if social media is more impactive, or if its the full mix of traditional and new media that's important....

I would like to know how these people first heard of the brand. Did they encounter them on a social network for the first time and would buy/recommend solely based on that? Or did they already know of the company, then find them on the social network?
