Study: No one cares about your tweets

Sorry to break the news to you, but no one cares about your silly twitterings. Not even your mom, who is too busy sharing her personal musings on Farmville and new Ensure flavors to check your Twitter account.

According to a study from the Pew Research Center, only one-third of Twitter users check other people’s tweets regularly. More evidence that Twitter may just be a narcissism feeder, another third of users only read content beyond their own boring tweets extremely rarely.

I’m going to tweet about how depressing this study is—not that anyone will read it.

I'd comment, but then I'd be showing I read someone's tweets, which might throw the data off. I'm torn. If I actually diss your article, what if your Mom really does read your tweets? What if she comes after me?

In reality good article. Twitter has been described as a million people talking (or tweeting) past each other. I'd say depending on what brings you to twitter is a big determinant of how much of other's content you are reading. I think the one size fits all approach to the study might be misleading, Relating back to the first study, I'd guess the casual tweeter is narcissistic and reads very few tweets other than those they regard as their social idols, which they read somewhat often, as a form of pseudo connectivity to those idols lives. On the other hand, researchers, politicos, niche knowledge spreaders, etc... probably read other's content quiet a bit.

Regardless, the just of the article is right on.

that study is not off the bat,as you can see in one of my tweets, i mentioned that only 2 celebs have contacted me(maybe it even wasn't them in person(reps,staff?)
that while they liked the content,more celebs would prefer more gossip like content!

signal vs noise, right? sure is a whole lot more signal out there the last 10 years, but we can only intake so much information. Look at your "books to read list", your Netflix queue, your Facebook friends #...

You gave me a good chuckle today and while I think this is mostly true, I've gotten multiple major corporate clients and even a NYT's interview directly through Twitter interactions. She's not my total bread and butter, but I still love the blue bird. DM me if you read this.

I think "no one" may be a bit strong. I am of the one third who makes an effort to check out my tweeples tweets, and my tweets usually get one to seven clicks with only 1,317 followers.

I think "no one" is a bit strong. I'm in the one third percent who makes an effort to read my tweeples tweets, and my tweets will get anywhere from one to seven clicks most of the time, which makes it worth my time. I also send and receive @replies fairly often.

It's true that I don't read most tweets. There are just too many. I do read tweets from people I have found to interesting/engaging and tweets related to a topic of interest.

On the other hand, Twitter feeding narcissism? Yes, but I guess it depends who you follow. I still think Facebook takes the cake at the moment.

infocycle is e7fing comedy. Actually, this entire parade is. I'm just glad to see such an intellectual and critically-thought-out response from all the narcissist nobodys here trying to defend their very interest, value, and presence as expressed routinely in 140 characters or less.

That said, I actually completely value and read all the tweets by some people. And also find any 'average herd-based statistics' irrelevant as a measure to my existence, thought processes, behavior pattern choices, interests, etc, largely irrelevant.

Just like in real life, I strive to identify and focus on the best examples and most-like-minded or entertaining characters as my favorites. The other 90% are what I try to ignore because they scare me.

But I guess all judgement and preference is relative, and I'm actually quite proud to be included in some group and excluded from others.

Minds like those behind the comments here I can see and analyze and measure based in the depth of their nature, and assuming the information and opinions their offering in sharing that advanced processing capability of the world are true, they are likely the ones who's tweets I would read more than Perez Hilton even on my worst bender.

How long until tweets replace prayers?

I have over 1600 followers and I am following close to 2000, over 250 friends on facebook, 500+ connections on Linkedin, No one calls me. Who can follow that many people. @bobroman

Yeah, you really have to wonder how many people actually look at their twitter. After all, it's a river of information and we can only handle so much before it just becomes more bothersome noise during the day.
