Surf’s up on East Coast as Hurricane Earl barrels in

Media_httpfarm5static_chfdg

The last time the East Coast experienced the ten-foot waves expected when Hurricane Earl comes to call, jeans were tapered, hair was big, and shoulder pads had yet to go the way of poodle skirts. It looks like old Earl is just in time for the party, especially if it’s a surfing party. As disappointed vacationers are being evacuated from the islands of North Carolina and other Eastern seaboard states, surfers are streaming in to places like Delaware and Jersey to catch the perfect wave. According to one local surf shop owner,

“We’re going to have all sorts of crazy wind and rain and not a lot of fun down here…But then immediately after that, things are going to clean up and we’re going to get a nice small window when things are going to come together just perfectly.”

He does warn that the conditions are not for those who haven’t donned a wetsuit since Hurricane Bob swept through in 1991 or anyone who has yet to buy one.
