The 50+ crowd flocking to social media
Social media may be seen as a trend among young people, but more and more older adults are using the sites as well, according to a new survey by Princeton Survey Research Associates on behalf of the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Highlights include:
- Among those 50 and older, social media use jumped from 22 percent in April 2009 to 42 percent a year later.
- Ten percent of the 50+ age group uses either Twitter or a similar “status update” service.
- Use among those ages 18-29 may be reaching saturation. Use among those 18-29, social networking use grew from 76 percent in April 2009 to 86 percent in May 2010.
