The Art of the Start

I gave this speech at TIECON in 2006. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Meg Whitman also spoke that year. There are days you are “on,” and there are days you are “off.” This was definitely an “on” day. However, TIE has not invited me back to give a keynote since. :-) To see the video in full screen, click on the Google logo in the lower right corner.

I based the speech on my book called Reality Check.

More tips and tricks for startups.

I struggle with the fact that my ventures are not an obviously profitable business model but they are strong on having meaning so maybe that gives us a chance. And here I thought having purpose is LESS advantageous than having a clear market value.

Also, I did not realize I have a mantra, but it's "comedy by women for women" and sorry but my mission statement would probably be, "Funny not Slutty features comedy for women created by female producers, writers, humorists and comedians".

Encouraging to say the least, thank you for sharing such a fantastic presentation.

Guy, It’s hard to be accused of being arrogant when you’re right. Well at least when you say things I agree with. Thank you for posting this presentation. I have been wanting to read your book and being right brained this video is has primed my pump. As always Thank you for your passion. - Schy

This is very profitable! I had to consume it twice, back-to-back. I feel as if the first PhD in Business Administration is in order after watching the video. I want the book!

I'd be interested in reading thoughts from people who plan meetings as to Guy's question about why you invite people back to speak. Obviously this was an awesome talk yet Guy hasn't been invited back. Thanks.

Ted,

I haven't been invited back because I don't run a huge company. Ideally, for many host organizations. a speaker is good and runs a big company. I am only 50% there. Most speakers, however, have only the other 50% covered if you know what I mean. :-)
