Dutch and Afrikaans but not German, odd collection of languages. Spanish is easier than German for me at least.

I definitely agree Chinese was far harder for me to learn than Spanish, German & even Sanskrit! My wife is Chinese and would just LAUGH at me... but hey, she did accept my proposal which was in Chinese!

I have very big doubts about this infographic. Maybe this is based on being vaguely understandable, not actually speaking a language. I wouldn't say Dutch is easy, but nevermind that. Do you have any idea how difficult Finnish really is? Last but not least, "Chinese" is not a language.

The Foreign Service Institute should first define what it means by speaking and reading proficiency!

Studying French for 25 hours a week for 6 months (the maximum cited) is probably not enough, unless one is exceptionally gifted, to achieve real proficiency.

Also, having studied both Chinese and Vietnamese, I found Vietnamese harder. It has 6 tones instead of Mandarin's 4, and I found it easier to acquire vocabulary by drawing characters (active) than studying romanized vocabulary lists (passive).

indonesian language is easiest to learn and has 300 milion native speaker but not included in your statistics

At least with German, unlike French, you can tell where one word ends and the next begins....

Three out of four of the hardest languages are Asian! Difficulty depends on who you ask. Most native Chinese speakers think that English is much more complicated-- with all its verb tenses and masculine/feminine pronouns.

Probably, Vietnamese language and is slightly more difficult Chinese, probably to study French for 6 months, the unequivocal opinion, but the most beautiful, rich, powerful, melodious and melodious language - unequivocally Russian (though I and the Greek woman) is possible concerning the Netherlands language not at all.

German and Polski are the easiest.
Arabic is quite easy.
Japanese - medeium.
Chinese -hard.
Finish -hard.

From natural russian and ukrainian speaker point.

there are no african languages on here at all, id like say Amharic is difficult (Ethiopia) its a semitic language like Arabic, verbs conjugate differntly for number and person
Akan and Yoruba arent too bad, they have tones sure but the grammar is straightforward, although Akans vowels are not as clear as Yorubas
most of the Bantu languages arent too bad, maybe the most difficult being languages lke
shona, xhosa and zulu, kikuyu, ndebele, etc. among the easiest of them being Swahili, Lingala, etc.
languages like Malinke, Pulaar and Wolof are rather difficult also, especially, Pulaar( Fulani languages)
