I have four university/college degrees and togther they would have contributed to less than 1% of my knowledge. An education is the most overpriced commodity in the developed world. The law of supply and demand means that it pays to be less educated and more pragmatic in the developed world.

i'm in college studying neuroscience. it's far too expensive. i could buy these books and learn the material myself, but apparently that's not a viable basis for a career. who knew?

Define "relatively worthless degrees." Would the studies of Galileo have been deemed worthless in his time? I suspect so, since he was tortured for heresy. Don't tie $money$ and power to the advancement of knowledge, however remote its application may seem.
