Though plenty say that celebrating on New Year’s Eve is only for amateurs, the Sun begs to differ in a big way.
With 2013 expected to mark the peak of Sun Cycle 24, our favorite star greeted the new year with a four-hour flare show, dubbed a “New Year’s Eve Ballet” by the staff of the Solar Dynamics Observatory.
