Despite your significant other’s scorn, do your hands yearn to work the land or raise a few harmless chickens/alpacas/bees? Lucky for Brooklyn-born Michael Paine not only did his wife Emily support his dream of becoming a small farmer, but her income allowed for the bank to loan the couple money for a country estate…because the very same bank would not touch a farm.
Paine’s time in Lesotho working on forestry projects for the Peace Corps first turned his fancy toward farming when he saw how much greater the need was for locally-grown food. He brought his passion home and believes the time is right for changes to be made, which would allow more people to return to this sustainable way of life.
