Perhaps one of the more impressive sights you can see in Phoenix is a haboob rolling in from the top of one of the mountains surrounding the city, but it looks like you won’t need natural features to get this kind of bird’s eye view when this most unusual architectural piece is built in downtown.
BIG architects designed the 70,000-square-foot observation ball that will feature restaurants, retail and display space within the gently sloping orb perched high above the skyline. It will also incorporate the use of solar power, something the Valley of the Sun has in plenty, and other technologies to make it a model of energy usage, which will be quite a sight to behold if they can keep a big glass ball over the desert a comfortable temperature in August.
