The politician's new microphone: social media

Over on the MediaShift blog, Steven Davy explores social media and politics. According to him, both journalists and politicians are pretty happy about the new technology shift. He lists a couple of reasons:

1.The politician's position is clearer and more accessible.

2. Social media makes communication more fun.

3. It breaks the cookie cutter formula of traditional press releases.

4. It increases the opportunities for media and politicians to interact.

If we use President Obama's campaign as a champion example, social media had some pretty incredible impact on the ability to mobilize and act transparently. The next step for us in this new Government 2.0 is to filter faux transparency from true transparency.

It's also having an impact at the small-town local level, too.
