The young geeks have money
Who says Gen Y is made of cheapskates? Spending among young folks is actually higher than ever, says a recent Alloy Media + Marketing survey. Spending for people ages 18 to 30 has peaked at $6.5 billion with a $250 billion in projected spending power.
In light of this spending power, the survey also uncovered some interesting findings into the particular tech savviness.
• Young people spend twice as much time on their computers than on televisions.
• 61% of young people watch their movies on their computers. 76% watch on TVs.
• The vast majority of young ones are the key decision makers in technology purchases.
These findings completely resound with my experience as a member of this age group. For me and many of my friends, the majority of our big purchases relate to tech, and we do watch and invest more in computer watching compared to TV watching. Wondering where all of Gen Y's money goes? Maybe you have to look in the right places.
How to get to know Gen Y in mere minutes.
