This week in history: Germany invades Poland
Seventy-one years ago, on September 1, 1939, a German battleship called Schleswig-Holstein opened fire at Westerplatte Fort, Danzig (modern-day Gdansk), while 62 German divisions with 1,300 aircraft invaded Poland. It was to become the first military engagement of World War II.
