Twitter Usage in America: Only 7% tweet
Who all communicates in 140 characters? Well, it seems plenty of people in the U.S. talk about Twitter, but not actually through it. A new report finds that a lot of Americans know about Twitter—87 percent, to be exact—but only seven percent actually use the micromessaging service.
The study, from Edison Research/Arbitron Internet and Multimedia Series, also uncovered some other interesting data tidbits regarding the current state of the Twitterosphere:
Who’s tweeting?
- 53 percent women, 47 percent men
- 25 to 34 year olds make up the largest age demographic with 33 percent
- 51 percent of users are white, 24 percent African American
A handful of other fun facts:
- 40 percent of Twitter users own at least three computers
- 51 percent of active Twitter users follow companies, brands or products on social networking sites
- 63 percent of active Twitter users do their social networking through mobile devices
