Thanks , this post is really helpful if you want to vacuum-seal your food.
OMG – never knew – thank u!
awesome, thank you!
Not vacuum sealed, not completely air free. Very close but will not keep as long as being vacuum sealed. I’ve tried it before this “hack” was made public courtesy of the internet.
All that water you have to waste for a piece a meat? No, thx.
Oh that’s wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant ! Who figured this one out ???
WONDERFUL!
Those Zip Lock bags seals will eventually let air in. Buy a vacuum sealer and don’t look back.
These Zip Lock bag seals will leak. Buy a vacuum sealer and don’t look back
So you waste 5 gallons of water to vacuum seal 1 steak? I’d rather just roll it, then seal it like I’ve been doing. That’s got to be quite time consuming too! How long did it take to fill that tub. Geesh, think people!!!
Won’t this cause your fingers to get wrinkly?
nice touch but how much storage time?
I think suction is more technical and accurate for long time storage.
SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great information. Thanks.
I WONDER IF A FREEZER BAG COULD BE USED IN MY VACUUM SEALER ? THE VACUUM SEAL BAGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE.
I do just what he did but without the water. Put your product in the Zip Lock bag, manually press all of the air out of the bag, insert a drinking straw in that small hole, inhale all of the air out of the bag slowing removing the straw until all of the air is gone and the bag is sealed. Easy and you don’t waste all of that water.
Do the same thing, but put your lips to the corner of the bag and inhale. When no air is in the bag zip it the rest of the way shut. Thats what I do.
As the others have said, just get a legitimate vacuum sealer, and use it.
I usually just use the press ‘n’ seal plastic wrap and call it a day… seems like a waste of water this way.
Doable? Yes. Practical? No.
That wastes a lot of water.
more garbage for the land fill
this is an advertisement so no negative comments will be posted
Great idea and not a waste of water the water is still very clean and can be used for watering plants, washing your car, even mopping the floor if your careful and do not accidently get contents of bag in water.
I bought a vacuum sealer several years ago – the original one, and never looked back. This video is pretty stupid. Waste of water, time, energy. Do it the right way and you won’t regret it. BTW, go to someplace like Walmart for those bags. They also sell just the roll of vac bags – it’s a long strip that you cut to size. Easy peasy.
So many negative people the idea is just that an idea not everyone wants or needs a bag sealer they use once a month or wants to buy special extra bags as for waste of energy how is no electricity needed a waste of energy or are we all getting soft and if your so concerned with wasting water Which this is not if anything it’s recycling water. Use it to water a plant wash your car I can think of a million ways to use it. I hope you practice that in your everyday life and just are not repeating one persons complaint. Why can’t we be positive more often and if it’s something you don’t like move on Jeeez.
James, you cannot re-use that water for plants; it’s got bacteria in it. (It’s like handling raw chicken, then touching someone with those gross hands.) It will grow within the plant and if it doesn’t kill it, could very well cause salmonella or worse. Would you want to wash your car with “meat” water? Eeeeyuuuu!
FYI, I most certainly practice what I preach every day. When both SIL and I were unemployed, we were forced to accept help from the local food pantry. We would spend an entire day cooking and creating meals for our respective families, divvy it up and vacuum seal it, label & date it, then freeze it. We also had our own container garden for veggies, fruit and herbs. We’d flash cook/freeze it in those vacuum sealed bags. That’s how we survived during the lean times. Now that we are on our feet again, we still stick to the same practice and save a ton of money. I’m almost debt-free as a result. Try it sometime. Nothing negative about that, and we were never were a burden on society and have paid it forward many times over since.
ABIANDSADIESSOCALLEDMOM oh indeed you are a burden to society with your holier than though attitude. almost debt free? doubt it bcs u r here being a troll when u should be at work whittling at your burdening debt. and FYI, you are burdening the earth with your idiotic wasteful plastic seal bags. You contradict yourself and sound like a douche. stick to your low wage job and get back to the French fries, as they are burning, you troll itch. have a good one, sadies, itch 🙂
Talk about trolls! How ignorant you are! Here I’m trying to be helpful and some POSht like you feels the need to comment. I have a very well paying job now, thank you very much and can come and go as I please. What have you done lately to benefit society? Not much I imagine if you feel the need to bash someone who has done nothing else to do in your pathetic waste of space in life. What a fool. The fact that you cannot even get my username correct just goes to show the low level of intelligence. You sound like an abortion gone wrong. Those wasteful bags you so stupidly talk about can be washed and re-used, which they are. Dimwit. Go away now and let the grownups talk. Momma’s calling you from the basement.
This is what I meant you are arguing over something so stupid you correct me about chicken water after I clearly said if you don’t accidentally get what’s in the bag in the water and you are so in need of the approval of strangers you have to tell your albeit great comback story but really I could care less we are talking vacuum sealing and whoever that was that piled on top of your speech went to far spewing hate and anger at a stranger what is wrong with people we ca not have a sple talk with out measuring who’s is bigger I just joined this website because it seemed normal boy was i wrong getting out while I still can like right now.
Goodbye
It seems a lot of bickering over a somewhat silly idea. There are other ways to vacuum seal a bag, with a vacuum cleaner, or squeeze as much as possible out. It will not last as long as a legitimate vacuum / heat sealer though.
Unless you are going to seal a few hundred pounds of meat, not worth the expense of wasting that much water, Roll the bag, seal it and move on. Or do it the best way possible, with a vacuum sealer.
