WAIT! Thats MY credit card number!. Fortunately nobody will be able to use it after july 2014, because thats when it expires… and nobody knows that my security code is 359.

hey that’s a wonderful primer on credit cards…a must see for all credit card users and merchants…i have come across another wonderful site on finance related topics…www.infopleez.com…pls visit that site and look at detailed analysis on LIC plans, LIC jeevan anand plan,LIC jeevan arogya plan etc.
this is not for my credit card.. my credit car is 58… but i can use my card on shops and e-shops. And on the picture, the credit card number is ending 2.. but it is ending 3 in caltulating.
Using your method, my credit card digits add up to 69 (not wholly divisible by 10) but its a working credit card issued by one of the major banks in India.. I have been using it for slightly over an year now.

Great information. But the problem is that most Banks find it very difficult to teach customers how to protect their information the more. On the other hand it should be the customers responsibility to protect the money they have suffered for.
The first digit tells you what type of business issued your card. The first six numbers identity your bank/issuer specifically. The seventh and following digits identify YOU. The final number checks you typed everything in correctly. You can also check whether any credit card number is valid using the Luhn algorithm. The Luhn algorithm is only in place to check for mistakes when typing your number in online or reading it out over the phone.

Woah nice artical 😀 though the digits through 7-15 don’t get us a trillion configurations , they only give a billion. I guess thats also fine since no bank will have a billion customers any time soon

I have 3 credit cards and the addition trick only works on two of them. And I made an excel spreadsheet to check my arithmetic.
