We've all seen it in the movies: A guy stumbles across quicksand, and before we know it, he's waist deep and can't get out. He's going to die unless someone rescues him quickly. But how quick does quicksand really work? Does Hollywood have it all wrong?
Fortunately, quicksand isn't quite the fearsome force of nature that you sometimes see on the big screen. The key is not to panic. Most people who drown in quicksand, or any liquid for that matter, usually panic and begin flailing their arms and legs.
