Join us on Facebook and celebrate World Animal Day 2011 with BBC Earth!
Today all around the world, nature lovers and wildlife experts alike down their tools and rise to their feet to acknowledge and celebrate World Animal Day 2011, and BBC Earth is no exception.
WAD 2011 marks the 80th anniversary of a convention of great ecological minds in Florence, Italy. The assembled scientists made a decision to join together to help raise awareness of key welfare issues surrounding endangered species. Today it is intended as a day of celebration for anyone who cares about animals.
Organisations, groups and individuals all over the world show their support for the movement by holding extraordinary events all over the world highlighting the importance of animals and animal welfare.
To show its full support to World Animal Day 2011, BBC Earth wants to inspire YOU, our wonderful community to acknowledge the animal kingdom and the important part it plays in our everyday lives. But we didn’t just want to celebrate for a day, so we made it a week. All this week on our Facebook Page we will be asking you to pick which of our three videos from the BBC Earth archives is your favourite.
