White House lets Facebook fans vote on turkey pardon FacebookWhite House
Traditionally, letting the crowd pick who gets a pardon hasn’t gone well, historically speaking, but this year the White House has done just that by letting Facebook fans vote on which turkey gets to be the National Bird this year.
According to the White House blog:
Born on the same day on a farm in Rockingham Country, Virginia, Cobbler and Gobbler may look alike, but they’re no birds of a feather. Cobbler craves cranberries, is known for his strut, and enjoys the musical stylings of Carly Simon. Gobbler, a patient but proud bird, loves to nibble on corn and enjoys any music with a fiddle.
Voting ended at 8:00 PM Eastern time, but we’ll have to hold our breaths until tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET to find out which one gets the honor.
(Oh, and in case you’re in a panic over which one will meet an untimely demise, the answer is neither; both will spend the rest of their days gobbling at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. The tofurkeys may not be so lucky.)
