The comparison between the cash lump sum payment vs. 26 annual payments is not quite so simple: they forgot to include the effect of inflation (or deflation, as the case may be!)

Eventually someone wins the lottery. Take for example Jim Katauchi of Oriso, CA who won $32,000,000 in Saturday's (1/15/2011) SuperLotto Plus draw. He bought a ticket, and it so happens that all of his numbers matched. Mint.com's info-graphic fails to personify the material impact a lottery windfall has on the lives of people like Jim.
