Why California could ban divorce
If Sacramento native, John Marcotte, gets his way, the marriage vow til death do us part will really stick. The married father of two wants to put a measure on the ballot next year to ban divorce in California.
The effort is meant to be a satirical statement after California voters outlawed gay marriage, in 2008, largely on the argument that a ban is needed to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage. If that’s the case, then Marcotte reasons voters should have no problem banning divorce. The movement has been gaining exceptional momentum online, and the initiative’s Facebook page already boats over eleven thousand members. Marcotte needs 649,354 valid signatures by March 22—no easy feat. But, even if he doesn’t succeed, his efforts to facilitate a dialogue about this important issue have made great headway.
Here’s a hilarious video inspired by the movement below. Read on to learn more about Marcotte and his inventive plan to achieve equal rights for all couples.
