Why newspapers need to think of themselves as apps to survive

Media_httpdldropboxco_tesvl

We’re living in an app economy—a web in which people use apps to consume and share things, especially the news (think Facebook, Twitter, and the iPhone). In this economy, if traditional news media wants to thrive, they’ll need to start thinking of themselves as apps. The state of being of an app is the condition of not only allowing, but thriving off of, having your content live elsewhere—and, on the flip side, acting as the platform that fuels growth through attracting an audience. Platform + apps = news consumption. Remember that formula.

This incredibly insightful article really nails down one of the largest problems (and solutions) to the death of the news. A must read!

traditional newspaper has its own followers, for example those living in the suburbs, they have no choices such as urban community that has all amenities such as Internet, radio, cellular communications, etc.

I would argue the formula is:
Platform + Apps = Information Consumption.

My opinion: Citizen journalism is great for quick news. But comprehensive, researched journalism is imperative for critically-thought-out information.
