I tell my clients that the number one sales tool is listening. Tom explained it sooo well, I'm going to email everyone so they can check this out for themselves.
I knew the answer (18 seconds) because I watch Scrubs on Comedy Central lol ..J.D. mentions it in one of his monologues...
I am all for listening, in fact one of my fav sayings is that we have two ears and only one mouth for a reason...however, just because a doctor makes a snap decision it doesn't mean its wrong. In fact, many professions simply MUST make snap judgments...say a football quarterback selecting the open receiver while two linebackers are milliseconds away from tackling his ass to the ground, or a radar operator trying to decide if the foofighter is friendly or not...they must make quick decisions fast (lol).
Having said that, I absolutely agree that managers would be well advised to shut up and listen.
On a sidenote: I find that the biggest problem with doctors is NOT the snap judgment they make but the depth of their self-deception. Perhaps a discussion for another time...
While I agree that listening is the important trait that most manager miss, I am equally appalled at most subordinates. They do not understand what they are talking, as they neither listen to others nor have time to listen. Because most of them, unfortunately, consider work as fun! I think the economy has taught some lessons, but how far that will remain in people's mind is anybody's guess.
Woow it's like "in your face" truth ! I'm sooo guilty, but now I'll remember Guy's little voice in the back of my head telling me "bro, remember Tom Peter's video I shared with you?"

Thanks for that... I'm listening
Brief and simple yet so powerful.
Not only in business, but in our personal lives we hardly listen.
We are more worried about what we we will say next than actually listening.
I am going to share it on my blog.
Thanks for sharing...Nuruddin http://post.ly/Y0ac
