Are you a one of a kind or second rate copy?copycatMarie Forleo
Check out this fantastic video from +Marie Forleo, Are people ripping off your business? How to say ahead of copycats.
“Copying is stealing and it’s wrong. You know that saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? I think it’s downright douchey.”
– Marie Forleo
Be original with your photos and your words. People will know that you copied their photo, bio text, writing or anything else that you take. There are plenty of resources to help you find your own voice and style. Respect yourself and be honest in your content. If you see that someone has stolen something from someone else, say something. It’s just not ok to do it, you’ll be doing them a favor since they may be under the false impression that people don’t know they’re a copycat. Guess what, people know.
I love this:
“Relish in the fact that you’re leading in your industry. Let’s face it, no one is copying the losers.”
– Marie Forleo
In the past week or so, I’ve had people copy my avatar photo style and 100% of the text from a Google+ post. Yes, this is the world wide web but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to be a jerk. Marie gives great examples in the video on the difference between being inspired by someone and being a copycat.
