Illustrations of Missed Connections
Strangers making eye contact as the bustle of the city sweeps them in different directions amongst throngs of other strangers hurriedly moving to their destinations. In a sea of people, noticing one person in the crowd can feel like a Hollywood perfect moment, but it passes quickly and you are left to wonder “was that the one?”.
Luckily for all the randoms struck by Cupid’s bow in crowded places, Craigslist Missed Connections came along and made reconnecting as easy as a click and an email. The messages posted made love at first sight seem real and also provided a wealth of romantic stories that range from delightful to bizarre.
Illustrated Sophie Blackall started following these Missed Connection tales in 2009, and began drawing her favorites in her distinctive, whimsical watercolor and ink style. She has now released a book–Missed Connections: Love, Lost & Found–filled with visual expression of love passed, skipped, and missed.
