It’s minke time!

What do you do when you’re in a small inflatable boat in Antarctica and a minke whale suddenly pops up on your port side and starts checking you out?

  • Grab your camera
  • Try not to fall overboard
  • Expect a blast of fish breath

The warmly dressed guests on the National Geographic Explorer Voyage to Antarctica were pretty tickled when this curious visitor showed up. Click here to watch.

Minke whales grow to 35 feet long and weigh up to 20,000 pounds. They don’t eat people, preferring krill, which explains their bad breath.
