Saying goodbye to the Empire Carpet guy

For those who spent their childhood in the Chicago area, it’s time to take out the hankies because a little part of our youth has passed on.

Lynn Hauldren passed away on April 26 after playing the carpet world’s most recognizable salesman since 1977 when he stepped from behind his desk as an advertising copywriter and into the spotlight.

In recent years, his fame has spread across the country with the familiar phone number “588-2300” and a cartoon likeness accompanied by his own voice, so many more share in our sorrow today.
