Strike a pose. Computers are watching [video]
A crowd-sourcing music video is helping scientists give eyesight to machines. The musical group band C-Mon and Kypski tapped its fans for the video project One Frame of Fame. The band asked fans to mimic a pose and then to replace one frame of the music video for the song “More or Less” with a capture from their webcams.
The video turned out to be an incredible source of data for computer vision scientists at New York University. (Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360 is a perfect example of computer vision technology.) The NYU team used the video to develop an algorithm that helps computers recognize poses while ignoring background noise such as lighting and clothing.
