Who would have guessed that back in the ‘40s while the world was embroiled in war, young women were using a secret code of their own to send a message about their love lives?

We can be thankful the Germans and Japanese didn’t crack this one, or we’d no doubt still be stuck with rag curlers and hair accessories big enough to signal a B52 bomber. International espionage could explain the scrunchie fad, though…
