The smell of books in a bottle

If e-readers just don’t do it for you because they smell like, well, nothing, then you’re in some pretty exclusive company. Karl Lagerfield apparently once said “The smell of a freshly printed book is the best smell in the world,” and just to drive the point home, helped design the packaging for this unique fragrance by Geza Schoen and Gerhard Steidl.

This is an opportunity to celebrate all the glorious sensuality of books, at a time when many in the industry are turning against them. The idea is that is should relax you, like when you read a book, to a level of meditation and concentration. Paper passion has evolved into something quite beautiful and unique. To wear the smell of a book is something very chic. Books are players in the intellectual world, but also in the world of luxury.

Paper Passion was part of Wallpaper Magazine’s Handmade exhibition in Milan but is available for purchase by booklovers everywhere for $115 US dollars. A cheaper option is, of course, to creep out your local librarian.
