Three very different animals that are on the move this Fall

by Arj Singh

It’s the time of year when the leaves start turning a beautiful golden brown colour, the nights start drawing in and the crisp, clean autumnal air fills your lungs.

It’s also the time of year many animals make their journeys to winter havens where they can keep warm and safe during the harsh winter months.

Monarch Butterflies

One of the most extraordinary migrations is that of the Monarch Butterfly. Well, we should say butterflies, since not one of them lasts the length of the migration. One generation actually dies during the migration, with the females leaving eggs for the next generation of butterflies flying south.

You can see more great videos and photos of Monarch Butterflies on our Facebook page. And find more amazing animal stories at the BBC Earth – Life Is website. We’d also really love to hear what you think of our content on Twitter.

You can get the full Fall migration story at the BBC Earth blog.
